Chapter 09:
Day Thirty-Four
(Part 3)

“Fuck,” Grimmjow cursed as he turned around.

“What are you doing?” Ulquiorra questioned taking a step forward. “You are concerning yourself in matters that don’t include you.”

“I brought her out here to heal Ichigo so I could battle him at full strength,” Grimmjow said crossing his arms. “Got a problem with that?”

“As a matter of fact,” Ulquiorra said as he flashed forward and pressed his finger against Grimmjow’s neck. “I do.”

“Ulquiorra, no!” Orihime shouted as Grimmjow was shrouded in his attack.

Grimmjow was knocked out of the ruins they were standing in and skidded across the sands. He forced himself to his feet. His body was covered in scratches. He wiped absently at his mouth.

“Alright green bean,” he said breathing heavily. “Looks like I have to take you out first.”

“If you were able to don’t you think your number would be higher than mine?” Ulquiorra questioned placing his hands in his pockets.

Within seconds they were locked in a fierce battle. Orihime quickly finished healing Ichigo and ran outside. She didn’t know why Ulquiorra was fighting Grimmjow. She remained silent for a while as she watched. She did know why. Ulquiorra was taking out his frustration about the situation on him. After all, it was Grimmjow she had to sleep with.

“Ulquiorra please!” she shouted. “Don’t hurt him! He saved me from Loly and Menoly! They were going to try and kill me!”

Ulquiorra brought his fist up to block Grimmjow’s sword. His face continued to be directed towards Grimmjow, but his dark green eyes turned towards hers. Orihime gasped. She could see emotion in his eyes. She could see the hurt and the anger that he was feeling even though he tried desperately to hide it. Tears streamed down her cheeks.

“Please Ulquiorra.”

He knocked Grimmjow backwards and turned to her. “So you would rather me let him live and then he destroy your friend you’ve just healed?”

“I can revert him back,” Orihime said looking up at him. “Ichigo would not lose to Grimmjow anyway.”

Grimmjow frowned at her. “Hey, what the hell are you saying?!”

Orihime racked her brain quickly, trying to think of something that would stop this fight. She knew that Grimmjow only wanted to see who was stronger between him and Ichigo. If he fought him, he should be sated for a little while. She’s never known him to ever listen to Aizen. That’s how he lost his arm in the first place.

“Grimmjow!” she called. “You only want to see who is stronger between you and Ichigo right?”

“Yeah,” he answered training his eyes on her. “Only thing I’m interested in.”

“Okay, go ahead and battle him.”

Ichigo was at her side staring wide-eyed at her. “Orihime what the hell are you trying to pull?!”

She turned to her long time friend. “Please Ichigo, there’s a lot you don’t know about and I need time to settle everything. You know you also want to prove that you’re stronger.”

Ichigo did not respond because he knew she was right. Nell jumped on Ichigo’s back protectively.

“No, Itsygo!” she cried. “You can’t go and get all beat up again when you just got fixed and Nell doesn’t wanna see you get hurt again Itsygo because Nell cares so much about you and you mean a lot to Nell and she…”

“Nell,” he said gently. “It’s alright. Have faith in me.”

She looked at him quizzically. Her eyes were slightly glazed with unshed tears. She sniffed loudly and climbed off his shoulder. “Okay Itsygo. Go kick his butt. He was mean to Nell anyway.”

“Is that so?” he asked turning his attention to Grimmjow.

Ulquiorra stood in the air looking down at Orihime.

“Please let’s talk okay?” she pleaded. “Let them get their fight out of their system and let us fix things.”

Grimmjow floated down to stand on Orihime’s other side. “Heal me so we can both battle at our full strengths.”

Orihime looked up at Ulquiorra again almost for permission. He nodded slightly and she began the process of rejecting Grimmjow’s injuries. A few moments later he was fixed and he immediately reached around over Orihime and punched Ichigo in the nose. He went flying and landed in the sand. He held his nose and glared at Grimmjow.

“That was a cheap shot!” he shouted.

Grimmjow smiled evilly. “Who said I played fair?”

Ichigo returned the smirk and stood. He unsheathed his sword and soon they were going at it. Sonic booms echoed loudly around them. Orihime put up a barrier to protect herself and Nell. Ulquiorra still was in the sky. She caught his eye and he slowly began his descent down. He landed lightly and placed his hands back in his pockets.

For a few moments they just stared at each other. Then Orihime threw her arms around Ulquiorra’s neck.

“I’m so sorry, Ulquiorra,” she sobbed. “I didn’t want any of this to happen. I truly only did it because I feared for your life. I know now that I shouldn’t have underestimated your strength. I know you are powerful and I should have believed in your abilities. I’m sorry for not having more faith in you. Please forgive me Ulquiorra. I can’t live without you. I… I love you!”

Ulquiorra’s face remained blank as he listened to what she had to say. He tried to see things from her point of view, because from his, it was just you slept with someone else. As he pondered on what she said, it dawned on him that she truly was only trying to protect him. He felt something warm flow through him as he looked at her. What was that emotion she spoke of? Love? He never experienced love before so he wasn’t sure if that was it.

He didn’t know if love made you want to hold someone for all eternity. He wasn’t sure if it made you want to destroy anything that upset her and protect her from all hurt, harm or danger. If it made his insides swell warmly ever time he looked at her… maybe he did love this human girl.

“Orihime,” he whispered as he wrapped his slim arms around her waist.

She cried happy tears. He brought his hands up to her face and wiped them away.

“Do not cry.”

She hiccupped slightly as smiled a little. “I meant everything I said.”

“I know,” he responded as he silenced her with a kiss.

Her arms snaked around his shoulders and he pulled her closer, deepening their kiss. Grimmjow and Ichigo stopped in mid air and watched with astounded faces.

“He never came off as a person to like anyone,” Ichigo said softly as he lowered his sword.

Grimmjow laughed. “Givin’ her some tongue action over there Ulquiorra?”

They pulled apart and Orihime giggled. He looked over at Grimmjow. “Mind your business.”

He frowned. “Asshole,” he muttered.

“So what are you going to do now Orihime?” Nell asked. “Aren’t you from the human world? Ichigo came to save you so are you going to go with him?”

Orihime froze. She hadn’t even thought about that. Of course she didn’t want to be here at Hueco Mundo, but there was one Espada that made her want to stay. She wanted to be anywhere with him. It didn’t matter where as long as she was safe in his arms.

“Do you wish to go home?” he asked. “I will not stop you.”

His voice was tinged with sadness and her heart went out to him. She kissed his cheek and he brought his hands to her sides. He looked at her deeply.

“Come with me,” she whispered. “You can live with me. I lived on my own anyway.”

Ulquiorra continued to stare at her for a moment. “What about Lord Aizen?”

“You do know he will destroy you or let you be destroyed to get what he wants right?” Ichigo spoke up. “He’s always been that way. That’s why the Soul Society wants him now. He betrayed the people who called him friend and killed many innocent people to get what he wanted.”

“Aizen is an evil man,” Orihime added. “In the process of getting what he wants, he’s going to destroy our home and all our family and friends. I know you, Ulquiorra, are not evil. Please help us.”

He looked at her for a few moments. “I am aware of Aizen’s intentions. I did not care because I had no reason to. Now I do.”

Orihime felt tears brimming at her eyes again. She finally had the love of her life back. The sweet thing he just said made her realize that he cared about her as much as she cared for him. They were going to get out of this together and live a happy life.

“I will help you defeat him,” Ulquiorra said as he brushed his lips against her forehead. “Then we are free to do as we please.”

“Same here,” Grimmjow piped in. “If there is no Aizen, I can battle who ever I want.”

He slapped Ichigo on the shoulders. “I can come live in the human world too and kick your ass as many times as I like.”

Ichigo groaned. “You’re so fucking annoying.”

Grimmjow just laughed. Orihime did the same. Things were already looking a little better. Suddenly Nell burst into tears.

“Itsygo don’t leave Nell here all alone!” she cried as she jumped and latched onto his shoulder. “Nell doesn’t want you to go so you have to take Nell with you because Nell would just follow you anyway and Dondochakka and Pesche can come too and we can call live happy togedder with Chad and Rukia and firehead and the guy with the glasses.”

Ichigo chuckled as she continued to babble. “You can come too Nell.”

“Really?”

She continued to sob and snot ran from her nose. Ichigo eyes nearly bugged out of his head.

“Nell that’s so gross! Get it off of me!”

She sucked hard and inhaled it all back. “All gone.”

Ichigo had to stop himself from gagging.

“You’re sick kid,” Grimmjow said shaking his head.

Orihime smiled and laid her head against Ulquiorra’s shoulder. She closed her eyes and enjoyed the feeling of him being near.

“Well well, what’s going on here?”

They turned to see Nnoitora standing with his weapon hoisted on his shoulders. A smile was plastered on his face.
